knife type gate valve is also called knife gate valve, knife edge gate valve, slurry knife gate valve, mud knife blade gate valve. The opening and closing part of the knife gate valve is one knife-shape plate, which moves perpendicular to the direction of the medium flow. The blade-shape valve plate of the knife gate valve is sharp enough to cut off the medium flow, so the close of the knife gate valve will not be blocked by the slurry mediums. 

The blade plate of the knife gate valve has two sealing surfaces. Generally, the two sealing surfaces of the knife gate valve form a wedge shape. The angle of the wedge varies with the parameters of the knife gate valve, usually it is 5°. the blade-shape valve plate of the wedge knife gate valve can be made into a whole, which is called solid wedge plate. The valve plate of the knife type gate valve can also be made into a plate that can produce a small amount of deformation to improve its manufacturing technique and compensate for the deviation of the sealing surface angle during processing. This kind of valve plate is called resilient wedge plate. There is actually no chamber inside the valve body, the valve plate moves up and down in the side guide groove, and is pressed tightly on the valve seat by the lug at the bottom. If a higher medium sealing performance is required, an O-shaped sealing valve seat can be used to achieve bidirectional sealing. The knife gate valve requires only small installation space, and has low working pressure, it is not easy to accumulate sundries, and more importantly, the price for knife type gate valve is low. 

When the knife type gate valve is closed, the sealing surface of the knife gate valve can be sealed by only the medium pressure, that is, relying on the medium pressure to press the sealing surface of the valve plate to the valve seat on the other side to ensure the sealing effect of the sealing surface. Which is called self-sealing. While most of the knife gate valve is using forced-sealing, that is, when the knife gate valve is closed, the valve plate must be pressed against the valve seat by external force to ensure the sealing effect of the sealing surface. This kind of knife type gate valve should generally be installed vertically in the pipeline.
