The ductile iron globe valve is one kind of forced sealing industrial valve, which is also called ductile iron stop valve, DI globe valve, ductile iron globe control valve, ductile iron globe steam valve, ductile iron cut off valve. When the ductile iron globe valve is closed, a external pressure must be applied on the valve disc to force the sealing surface not to leak. 

When the media enter the valve body of the ductile iron globe valve from the bottom of the disc, the resistance that the operating force needs to overcome is the friction force between the valve stem and packing and the thrust generated by the pressure of the medium. The force to close the ductile iron globe valve is greater than the force to open the ductile iron globe valve, so the valve stem diameter of the ductile iron globe valve should be large, otherwise, the stem may be bent.

Advantages and disadvantages of ductile iron globe valve: 

1.Compared with the gate valve, the ductile iron globe valve has simpler structure, and the manufacturing and maintenance of ductile iron globe valve is more convenient. 

2.The sealing structure of the ductile iron globe valve belongs to the metal to metal seated hard sealing structure. The sealing surface of the ductile iron globe valve is not easy to wear and scratch, and its sealing performance is great. There is no relative sliding between the valve disc and the sealing surface of the valve body of the ductile iron globe valve when the globe valve is opening and closing. So the wear and scratch of the ductile iron globe valve are not serious. Its sealing performance is good, and its service life is long. 

3.When the ductile iron globe valve is opening and closing, the stroke of the valve disc is small, so the height of the ductile iron globe valve is smaller than that of the gate valve, but the structure length of the ductile iron globe valve is longer than that of the gate valve. 

4.The opening and closing torque of the ductile iron globe valve is large, its opening and closing is laborious, and its opening and closing time is long. 

5.The fluid resistance of the ductile iron globe valve is large, because the medium channel in the valve body is tortuous, so its fluid resistance is large, and its power consumption is large. 

6.When the nominal pressure PN≤16, the flow direction of the medium flow adopts the downstream flow, which is the medium flows upward from the bottom of the valve disc; when the nominal pressure PN≥20, the medium flow generally adopts the reverse flow, which is, the medium flows downward from the top of the valve disc. When the ductile iron globe valve is used, the medium can only flow in one direction, and the flow direction cannot be changed. 

7.The disc is often eroded when the ductile iron globe valve is fully opened. 

The stem axis of the ductile iron globe valve gland packing is perpendicular to the sealing surface of the valve seat. Its opening or closing stroke of the valve stem is relatively short, and the ductile iron globe valve gland sealing has a very reliable cut-off action, making this globe valve suitable for cutting or regulating and throttling the medium.
