1. what is a globe valve?
Globe valve, also known as shut off valve, stop valve, isolating valve, is a mandatory sealing valve, so when the valve is closing, pressure must be applied to the valve disc to force the sealing surface not to leak. When the medium enters the valve from the bottom of the disc, the resistance that the operating force needs to overcome is the friction force between the valve stem and the packing and the thrust generated by the pressure of the medium. The force to close the valve is greater then the force to open the valve, so the diameter of the valve stem should be large, otherwise the valve stem will be bend. When the globe valve is open, the opening height of the valve disc is 25% to 30% of the nominal diameter of the globe valve, the flow rate has reached the maximum, which indicates that the globe valve has reached the fully open position. Therefor, the fully open position of the globe valve should be determined by the stroke of the valve disc.
2. How many types the Globe Valve has?
The globe valve can be divided into three type according to their connect method: flange globe valve, threaded globe valve, welded globe valve.
According to its channel direction, the globe valve can be divided into: angle globe valve, oblique globe valve, plunger type globe valve.
2.1. what is angle globe valve?
In the angle globe valve, the fluid only needs to change direction once, so that the pressure difference dropping through this globe valve is smaller than that of the conventional structure globe valve.
2.2. what is oblique globe valve?
In the oblique globe valve or Y shape globe valve, the flow channel of the valve body forms a diagonal line with the main flow channel, so that the degree of damage to the flow state is smaller than that of the conventional globe valve, so the pressure loss through the globe valve is correspondingly smaller.
2.3. what is plunger type globe valve.
This plunger type globe valve is a variation of the conventional globe valve. In this kind of plunger type globe valve, the valve disc and valve seat are usually designed based on the plunger principle. The valve disc is polished into a plunger which is connected with the valve stem, the seal effect is realized by two resilient sealing rings sleeved on the plunger. The two resilient sealing rings are separated by a collar and the sealing ring around the plunger is compressed by the load applied to the bonnet by the bonnet nut. The resilient sealing ring can be replaced and be made of a variety of materials. This kind of plunger globe valve is mainly used for “OPEN” and “CLOSE”, but if it is installed with special forms of plungers or special collars, it can be used to regulate the flow.
