What are the advantages and disadvantages of gate valve? -Belo Valve

A gate valve is a valve whose closing part moves in the vertical direction of the channel axis. Gate valve is mainly used to close the medium in the pipes, which can only be open or closed fully. Gate valve can not be used to regulate the flow. With different material used, gate valve can be applied to low temperature and high pressure as well as high temperature and high pressure, but usually gate valves are not used in pipelines which transport mud and other mediums. 

Advantages of gate valve: 

① gate valve has small flow resistance. 

②the torque required for opening and closing the gate valve is small; 

③gate valve can be used on annular network pipes where the medium flows in both directions which is, the flow direction of the medium in gate valve is not restricted; 

④when the gate valve is fully open, the corrosion of the working medium to the sealing surface is less than that of the globe valve; 

⑤gate valve has simple structure, and better manufacturing process; 

⑥the face to face length of gate valve is short; 

Disadvantages of gate valve: 

①the overall size and opening height of gate valve are large, and the space required for installation is also large; 

②in the process of opening and closing, the sealing surface is relatively rubbed and the wear is large, which is easy to cause wear even in high temperature. 

③gate valve generally has two sealing surfaces, which makes it difficult to fabricate, grinding, maintain.
