Industrial valve refers to one kind of mechanical equipment which is used in pipelines to open, close and regulate the medium flow. industrial valve includes gate valves, butterfly valves, throttle valves, check valves, globe valves, ball valves, hydraulic control valves, pump valves, fire protection valves, etc.
Today we are going to talking about the advantages and disadvantages of globe valves:
What is globe valve?
Globe valve (also called as stop valve) refers to a valve in which the closing part( the disc of the globe valve) moves along the center line of the valve seat. According to this form of movement of the valve disc, the change of the valve seat port is proportional to the valve disc travel. Because the opening or closing stroke of the valve stem of the globe valve is relatively short, and has a very reliable closing function, and because the change of the valve seat port is proportional to the stroke of the valve disc, so globe valve is suitable for flow regulation. Therefore, globe valve is very suitable for shut-off or regulation and throttling.
Advantage of globe valve:
① during the opening and closing process, the friction between the disc and the sealing surface of the valve body is smaller than that of the gate valve, so globe valve has wear resistance;
② the opening height of the globe valve is generally only 1/4 of the valve seat channel, so globe valve is much smaller than the gate valve;
③ Usually there is only one sealing surface on the valve body and valve disc, so globe valve is better to manufacture, and it is easy to maintain;
④ since the packing of the globe valve is generally a mixture of asbestos and graphite, so the high temperature resistance of globe valve is high. Typically, steam valve is using globe valves(stop valves);
Disadvantages of globe valve:
① because the flow direction of the medium through the globe valve has changed, the minimum flow resistance of the globe valve is also higher than that of most other types of valves;
② the opening of globe valve is slower than ball valves, due to the long stroke of globe valves.
