When the compressed air in the cylinder is delivered into the air chamber of the pneumatic actuator, the air pressure acts on the piston, and the generated thrust drives the output shaft to rotate, and at the same time drives the valve stem and the disc to rotate, which completes an opening and closing action of the butterfly valve. Pneumatic butterfly valve uses the compressed air to push multiple sets of pneumatic pistons in the actuator to move, driving the hollow spindle to rotate, and the compressed air plate is delivered to each cylinder to change the position of the air inlet and outlet to change the direction of rotation of the spindle, according to the torque requirement of the butterfly valve, the number if cylinder combination can be adjusted to drive the work of the butterfly valve. 

A valve positioner can be installed to the pneumatic actuated butterfly valve, which can adjust the opening of the butterfly valve accurately. It is also possible to use an intelligent positioner to connect with the field main line to detect the working state of the pneumatic butterfly valve.
