What types of industrial valves are used for water treatment plant?

There are various types of industrial valves, like butterfly valves, gate valves, check valves, ball valves, globe valves,etc. They are widely used for oils, gas, steam, water, corrosive and non corrosive mediums, in manufacturing industry, chemical industry, petroleum industry, natural gas industry, food and medicine industry, light industry, sewage treatment plant, drinking water treatment and supply industry,etc. Today we are going to introduce what kind of industrial valves are used for water treatment plants. 

The purpose of water treatment is to improve water quality and make it meet a certain water quality standard. According to different treatment methods, there are physical water treatment, chemical water treatment and biological water treatment and so on. 

According to different treatment objects or purpose, there are water supply treatment and waste water treatment. Water supply treatment includes domestic drinking water treatment and industrial water treatment. Waste water treatment is divided into domestic sewage treatment and industrial waste water treatment. Water treatment is of great significance for developing industrial production, improving products quality, protecting human environment and maintaining ecological balance. 

Industrial valves used for water treatment plants: 

1. gate valve 

Gate valve is one widely used valve for water treatment plant to cut off the water flow. With different stem structure, gate valve can be divided into rising stem gate valve and non rising stem gate valve, the lifting height of the valve stem of rising stem gate valve can show clearly the opening degree of the gate valve. With different sealing materials, there are soft sealing gate valve(also called resilient seated gate valve) and metal to metal seated gate valve( also known as hard sealing gate valve), usually soft sealing gate valve is widely used for water treatment plants, those soft sealing materials can achieve almost zero leakage. 

2. ball valve 

Ball valve can be used for water treatment plant, to cut off, distribute and change the flow direction of the medium. Ball valve is usually used as a common on/off valve. Ball valve is not suitable to be used as a throttle valve, but in partially opening state, ball valve can be used to reduce the pressure of inlet and outlet system. 

3. Globe valve

The main function of globe valves in the water treatment pipelines is to cut off or connect the fluid. The effect of globe valve in regulating flow rate is better than that of the gate valve, while the globe valve can not be used to regulate the pressure and flow rate for a long time, otherwise, the sealing surface of the globe valve may be corroded by the medium and destroy the sealing surface. 

4. Check valve 

Check valve is also called non return valve, back pressure valve, one way valve, is one kind of automatic valve. Check valve can be divided into swing type check valves, lifting type check valve, wafer butterfly type check valve etc. 

Check valves are used to prevent the back flow of the mediums in water treatment pipelines and equipment. 

5. butterfly valve 

Butterfly valve is one kind of rotary valve, whose valve plate will rotate 90°around its valve stem to realize the opening and closing of the butterfly valve. There are concentric butterfly valve and eccentric butterfly valves, concentric butterfly valves can be divided into flange concentric butterfly valves, concentric wafer type butterfly valves and concentric lugged type butterfly valves. With different sealing material used, butterfly valve can be divided into soft sealing butterfly valves( like EPDM lined soft sealing butterfly valve and PTFE lined soft sealing butterfly valve) and metal hard sealing butterfly valves. 

In the water treatment plants, butterfly valves can be used for cutting off and throttling. When the butterfly valve is used for cutting off, the resilient seated soft sealing butterfly valves are mostly used, like EPDM lined concentric butterfly valves, PTFE lined concentric butterfly valves, which can achieve almost zero leakage. While when butterfly valves are used for throttling, the metal hard sealing butterfly valves are mostly used, like the metal seated double eccentric butterfly valves and metal hard sealed triple eccentric butterfly valves.
